History of the Club
Coach Don Rose (who just retired
last year, after contributing much commitment and love to rowing) brought rowing to K-State in 1963. The crew started with
only a few old wooden eights and a coach passionate about the sport of rowing. By 1966, the program had grown and was granted
varsity status. As the program developed, new equipment was purchased and a boathouse was built. In 1975, women’s rowing
was added to the program, and in 1986, a rowing program for high school boys and girls was established. The women’s
crew was granted NCAA status by K-State in 1996 and is now run as a separate program from KSRA. KSRA now encompasses
the K-State Men’s Crew– college men, and the KSRA Jrs.– high school men and women. The sport of rowing is
rich in tradition, sportsmanship and competitive racing. It is a sport that demands teamwork, determination and hard work.
